Cassie McCarty Green is a professional counselor who specializes in work with the LGBTQ+ population, Cassie received her Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology from Troy University in Troy, Alabama in 2012. She earned her Master’s in Professional Counseling & Marriage and Family Therapy from Johnson University in 2014. Cassie’s professional interests include LGBTQ+ advocacy, identity formation, healing from trauma & spiritual abuse, and researching/teaching about ‘curiosity’.
Cassie began her career as a therapist in Kingston, Tennessee in a psychiatric residential facility for high-risk, traumatized adolescents. In 2016, she moved to a community mental health setting in Knoxville, Tennessee, where she developed and launched an LGBTQ+ outreach/therapy program. Cassie quickly noticed a significant lack of competent, knowledgeable medical and mental health treatment for LGBTQ+ persons in this area, so she focused on building a network of providers characterized by respect and knowledge of issues specific to this population.
Cassie grew up in a conservative evangelical home and was actively involved in her church her entire life. She did not begin to actively wrestle with her sexuality until she entered her undergraduate studies. This wrestling looked more like unhealthy friendships, occasional bouts of disregard for her beliefs, and repression of her authentic self. Thankfully, when she began graduate school she found an affirming therapist who directed her to resources and walked with her through the coming out process. Cassie studied affirming and non-affirming interpretations of the Bible for two years while completing her graduate studies. She now believes that God celebrates and deeply loves LGBTQ+ persons and rejoices in LGBT relationships. Cassie also specializes in working with folks journeying through and exploring non-monogamy via individual, couples, and group services. Cassie and her wife, Lauren Green, spend their time advocating for LGBTQ+ persons within the church, hiking with their dog, traveling, drinking coffee, and playing Scrabble.
Cassie is now accepting new patients!
