About Stephane
I am Stephane Louis, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of Florida. I’m a writer, qualified supervisor, instructor, and introvert. As a queer woman of Haitian descent, I explore different ways the intersection of culture, family, identity, and sexuality can impact our lives. I help people feel safe to be themselves and go from where they are to where they can be.
I studied Psychology and Biblical Studies and earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Palm Beach Atlantic University. I went on to earn my Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Nova Southeastern University and am completing my doctorate degree in July 2020.
In 2020, I was featured in Forbes for my study on resilience and intersecting identities of queer women of Afro-Caribbean descent.
Throughout my career, I have worked as a Bilingual Mental Health Assessor, Psychology Instructor at Broward College, and most recently as a Student Counselor at Lynn University. I enjoy working with clients and helping them move forward through their goals. As a therapist and instructor, I have helped teens, and adults navigate life transitions as well as academic success leading up to their careers. My Marriage and Family Therapy training and further experience has provided me with in-depth insight into how multiple systems and important relationships can influence the course of a person’s life.
One of the most impactful influences of my life has been my faith. Before I knew I wanted to be a therapist, the idea of “Becoming all things to all people”(1 Corinthians 9:19-23) spoke clearly to the way I wanted to treat people. I am intentional about meeting people exactly where they are because that is what I have experienced in my relationship with God.
I have always had a heart for ministry, but as a queer Christian person I struggled to make sense of my relationship with God and my sexual orientation. When I was a leader in my church and on my Christian college campus, I felt like I was letting people down with my same sex attraction. I tried to pray away the gay, but I could not.
God has fearfully and wonderfully made each of us and that no gender identity or sexual orientation can disqualify us from the love. It took time for me to believe that that these truths also included me. The world isn’t always supportive of queer people. Some of us have been hurt by our communities of faith or loved ones. Know that you were born whole and still are, even if you feel broken. “God so loved the world...” is talking about you. I would be honored to walk along side you as you discover the fullness of what God has placed on the inside of you.
My fee is $165 a session with some sliding scale appointments available.
