support for family members of lgbtq children

Parents, the very first thing I want you to know is that even though you can’t see a way forward since your child has come out to you, there is hope and there is a path. The path includes you getting support and a safe space to process. Ultimately, we want to help you gain a deeper connection with your child and with God. I want to remind you, that you are the most important person in your child’s life.  I know this time for you is layered with so many different feelings; confusion, anger, fear and loneliness. To hear the words from your son, or daughter that they are LGBTQ launches you into your own grief process.  But do not lose hope, this place won’t always feel so dark and painful.  We are here to support and process with you. We can help you get to the other side.

You have more power than anyone else in you child’s life to help them find peace and happiness in their life. You also have the most impact on how they will experience God during this time. Yes, they have their own responsibility for themselves but you are a part their journey too. Your reaction to your son, or daughter being lesbian, gay, transgender, bi-sexual or questioning will have the greatest impact on their life – more than anyone else. But the truth is, it’s not easy news to get, and your ability to process this is deeply important.

Of course, it is right to assume your child needs support as they come to terms with being LGBTQ and coming out as such. But I’m here to say, the family and friends of that individual also go through their own process and need just as much time, space and support.

When your child tells you they are LGBTQ you enter into a grief process and it can be messy and extremely painful. It can also be hard to know where to turn for answers on how best to deal with this news.

Our services aren’t meant to make sure you end up in any one spot, but to help you journey through your child’s coming out. We have a team of Christian therapists who understand where you’re at and want to support you.  We also have a team of LGBTQ Christian therapists if your child needs support too, but this separate part of our ministry is directly for you.
